STAAR April Administration, Apr 10-11

Students in grades 4, 5, 7, & 8 will take STAAR tests in April.

During the administration of the STAAR test, visitors will not be allowed in the building. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the front office.

Volunteers needed at STEAM and International Fest

We will have our annual STEAM and International Fest on the April 20th Friday, between 4:00pm-7:00 pm. This is one of the biggest event in the school throughout the year. We need your help during this event for different tasks in the various areas of the school.

You are welcome to join us for this event and also help our PTO during the event to make an unforgettable STEAM and International FEST in 2018.

Free Summer Enrichment Program at UHD

Houston PREP is an intensive mathematics-based pre-college enrichment program, which provides educational enrichment opportunities for high ability middle and high school students.

The program has been successfully running for years and recently has become a successful partnership between Harmony and UHD. 50 spots have been secured for Harmony students and the application deadline has been extended for another week.

This is a great opportunity for students. Act fast since there are limited spots available.

The annual Campus Improvement Plan meeting will be held March 23.

The Campus Improvement Plan meeting will be held in the cafeteria at 4 pm on Friday, March 23. Parents and school community is encouraged to attend. Please see the attached flyer.

Spirit Night at Chick-Fil-A

Have you wondered what to do for dinner some nights? Well, join us for Spirit Night on Wednesday, March 7th from 5-7pm. The purpose of a lockdown drill

The purpose of a lockdown drill is to test the planning process and the procedures developed in the event of an internal or external threat to the school.  This may include individuals behaving in a hostile/potentially hostile manner.

 

 

 

Don’t Contact Your Child
Whether by call or text and despite your instinct, it’s best NOT to try to get in touch with your child during school lockdowns. Exchanging information with them, especially information that is incomplete or wrong, could make matters worse or cause unnecessary worry.

Don’t Go to the School or Call
If a school is on lockdown, there is a reason. It may involve an unsafe environment in or surrounding the school. For your safety, the safety of your child, and the well-being of all involved, it’s best to steer clear until you get word from the school. School staff will most likely be unable to answer phones and the lines must remain clear to contact emergency personnel.

Don’t Panic
This is probably the most important thing to remember. Of course, when we hear about a school going into lockdown we assume the worst, another school shooting. But, there are many reasons that a school could go on lockdown and many of those may not directly involve the school. Remain calm for both yourself and your child.

Do Prepare Your Child
It’s not fun to imagine scary scenarios, and we certainly don’t want to scare our kids more than the world already can, but it is still important to prepare them for a lockdown situation. Explain how they will be expected to behave, warn them they may not be able to talk to you right away, and stress that they should listen to their teachers and those in uniforms who are there to help.

Do Have Your ID With You
When picking your child up, once the all clear has been given, make sure you have the proper ID. Even if you are well-known to the staff, there may be other officials involved in the situation and you should be prepared to prove your child belongs to you.

Do Sign Your Child in at the Front Office if You Arrive After School Starts
School starts at 7:55 am. It is our school policy that any student arriving after this time must be escorted into the front office and signed in by a parent/legal guardian. Please be aware that a lockdown can happen at any time. In the event of a lockdown, all doors will remain locked and students arriving late will not be allowed inside.

Mock STAAR February 20-23

2nd thru 8th grade will be taking a Mock STAAR assessment beginning on February 20th to the 23rd. Due to Mock STAAR, there will be no after-school tutorials or after school clubs. However, there will be Saturday Tutorial on February 24th.

Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time each day. Encourage your child to do their best. This will be an opportunity for students to show how
much they have learned so far this year. The results from this Mock Assessment
will determine your child’s placement in After-School Tutorials and Saturday
Tutorials.

School Closure Make Up Day Decision

It was decided that we will not have any make up days for the days we missed. In order to make up the days and times required by TEA, we decided to extend the daily instructional times in last quarter. During the 4th quarter (March 19-June 1), our dismissal time will be 3:03 pm instead of 3:01 pm

Harmony School of Endeavor-Houston offers following free classes for parents through the year:

ESL classes: Every Tuesday at 4:00 – 5:00 PM

Computer Classes: Every Wednesday at 4:00 – 5:00 PM

Turkish Classes: Every Thursday at 4:00 – 5:00 PM

8th Grade Parent Night

Eighth Grade Parent Night, which will take place at Harmony School of Endeavor on Wednesday, February 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.We hope that you will be able to join us for this educational evening.

 

During this time, the High School Counselor will be in the school to provide information regarding graduation requirements for the Class of 2022. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to become aware of High School course offerings, as well as, ask any questions regarding scheduling or high school transition. This presentation is intended for parents only, as their counselor is working with students to help them complete their course selection process through their Naviance account this week and next week.

TSI Assessment

The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help your college or university determine if you are ready for college-level coursework in the general areas of reading, writing, and mathematics. The test is also required for DUAL credit course Enrollment for high school students. Accordingly, if your child wishes to enroll in DUAL credit courses, then taking TSI is necessary.

 

TSI Assessment will be administered at Harmony School of Endeavor computer lab on February 17th, 2018 at 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Announcement!

In accordance with the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented students, Harmony Public Schools will begin taking nominations for all interested students in grades 1-11 for gifted and talented screening. Anyone interested in the educational welfare of these students may nominate them for assessment. 

Nomination forms are available at the front office and on the school’s web site. The forms must be returned to the front office by Friday, February 9, 2018. Assessment will begin on Monday, February 5, 2018. For more information about the screening and identification process, parents may contact the school’s GT Coach/teacher.

After-school Program is now enrolling for Spring Semester!

You can now register your child(ren) for our awesome after school program! It will help your child(ren) become a more well-rounded student by helping with the completion of homework, and by offering different STEM-based activities, sports, outdoor games, literacy time, arts and crafts, DIY games, sports and more…
